Minimum Qualifications:

License:   Possess a valid Oregon Teaching license with Special Education endorsement.  

 

Position Status:

This is a full-time 1.0 FTE, licensed position with a contract for the 2024-2025 School Year. 

 

2024-25 Contracted Highlights Include:

  • COLA of 5% / District Paid 6% PERS PickUp
  • 186 Day Calendar / 6 Paid Holidays
  • 3 Personal Days Annually (paid out at end of year if not used) / 12 Days Sick Leave Annually 
  • $1,525.00 monthly District insurance contribution for medical / dental / vision premiums
  • $345.00 monthly Health Savings Account District contribution with enrollment in qualified high deductible medical plan
  • Annual tuition reimbursement for amount equal to 3 credits at the Portland State University rate

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Preferred knowledge and experience with students identified with significant cognitive, physical, and/or pervasive developmental disabilities.
  • Preferred knowledge of Universal Design for Learning.
  • Develop and implement all required special education procedures including parent rights, eligibility, IEP, placement, discipline, and records according to stated timelines.
  • Develop and implement a functional curriculum focused on the acquisition of daily living and vocational skills, with the goal of a successful transition to adult life in the community; adapts instruction and materials to meet each student's individual strengths and needs.
  • Understands classroom management theories and strategies, and uses strategies for individual behavior management, crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation.
  • Creates a classroom culture which is a cognitively busy place, demonstrating a shared believe in the importance of learning; establishes high expectations and motivates personal achievement.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction on IEP goals. 
  • Plans effective instructional strategies for modifying the general education curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Utilizes specialized materials, equipment, and assistive technology for individuals with disabilities and understands the use of adaptive equipment for individuals with disabilities.
  • Evaluate student performance of behavior, social, life, and academic skills.
  • Consistently assess student achievement through data collection.
  • Plan, administer, and implement, in cooperation with other general education and special education teachers, an appropriate instructional program of study that meets individual student needs.
  • Able to work with difficult behavioral situations in a calm, professional manner that maintains student confidentiality and dignity. 
  • Ensure that special education services consider the needs of students with disabilities and families with a lens of equity and inclusion.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules for instruction and general education classroom inclusion support.
  • Provide or supervise personal care, medical care and/or feeding of students as needed.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with students, staff, and parents.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Enthusiasm for school improvement and change.
  • Team player with the ability to adapt to change.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies and related service providers as needed.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise instructional support staff duties.
  • Provide a positive role model for students that supports the mission and values of the District.
  • Able to have, and utilize, a positive behavior philosophy and maintain a growth mindset.
